Home Sweet Doll House

May 21st, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the misconceptions about doll houses is that these miniatures bring the owner to some sort of a fantasy world or to some a Neverland far away. Most people did not find it hard to believe. Their belief is not without good basis. After all, a doll house is just a make-believe and a toy.

The truth is, a doll house or any toy for that matter helps people get in touch with reality. Toys have their playful way of reminding their owners that there is a real world out there. In the case of doll houses, these miniatures reminds us that no matter where and how far we go, there is always this place we call home that we have not stop loving.

Decorating a Kidkraft doll house is just one of the activities that keep us in touch with our feelings for our respective real homes. When applying paint on a doll house for example, you apply as much care and diligence as when painting your own home to get a smooth finish. There are other ways of decorating a doll house with which you can express how much you care for your real home. Aside form painting, there are other ways to decorate your doll house which include:

- Wallpapering

- Carpeting

- Tiling

- Creating stone work

- Cladding the walls in wood

The most common decorating ways that most doll house owners prefer are painting, wallpapering and carpeting being the easiest to do. Carpeting for example does not require as much technical knowledge as would creating stone work. You need to have a little more experience before moving on to tiling, creating stone work, and wood cladding.

Painting is by far the easiest to do because you do not have to worry much about getting the right scale. All you need is to choose the color scheme of your choice. When painting the walls of your doll house, you can create a pleasing effect by adding trim work and moldings. It is best to use a non acrylic based paint. Wallpapering and carpeting need an entirely different approach, besides choosing the right color scheme, you need to find a carpet or wallpaper that is the right scale for your doll house. The same approach apply to tiling.

If you think wallpapering is only good and is limited to your doll house’s interior you are underestimating the beauty of wallpapers. There are lots brick papers to give the exterior an authentic look. Do not also underestimate the type of wall paper adhesive you are using since this will result to sloppy work. Do use special paper adhesive that are available in doll house stores.

There are available wooden flooring that is scaled and ready to lay down making it easier for you to work on the flooring. However, if you are using cabinet grade plywood you may stain and give it a good finish to give it a natural wood appeal.

A well decorated Kidkraft doll house is just too good to be true.

Your Child Can Greatly Benefit From Little League Baseball Instruction

May 15th, 2010

Is your child ready to play little league baseball this year? Has your child been playing baseball but would like to benefit from added instruction? There are dedicated coaches available and ready to provide instruction on baseball fundamentals and advanced instruction. Private lessons, clinics and baseball camps offer ways to help your child improve skills while meeting others with similar interests.

Baseball instruction targets all aspects of the game of baseball including hitting, pitching, defense, and the mental side of the game. The following article provides insight regarding improving infield defensive skills. Such information is available to your child via enrollment to baseball instructional programs.

It is important to have the right mindset

Baseball fundamental learning focuses on producing and maintaining proper positive mindset. The little league player should realize that the ball may be hit to them on any given play. Many junior baseball players commit errors in the infield because they are not ready for the ball or have an apprehensive attitude. Youth baseball instruction teaches kids to have the right attitude and confidence inspiring them to want the ball on every play.

Baseball lessons, clinics and camps teach proper baseball awareness

Major league baseball players develop their baseball awareness to the point where they can almost anticipate where the ball is going to go based on a number of variables. Any ballplayer on the field must have the mental awareness to know that at any given time he can be involved in a play and must know exactly what to do at that time.

Learning to field ground balls

Fielding ground balls is an integral part of being a baseball infielder. Players must learn to time their approach towards the ball and utilize their mechanics in receiving and throwing the ball. These variables can be learned and practiced to the point that they become second nature when fielding ground balls; making being an infielder at any level easier and a more enjoyable experience.

Baseball lessons, clinics and camps are filled with a multitude of baseball drills. The drills range in intensity and speed. Baseball fundamentals are given to each young player with the hopes of increasing their skills with more practice until proper mechanics and motions become second nature during play. Most instructors call this “developing muscle memory”.

Proper baseball lessons, clinics and camps improve skills in order to make kids better players. Becoming a better player promotes self confidence and teaches kids about the rewards of practice, persistence, commitment and concentration; attributes they can apply in other areas of their lives such as school work.

Infield coaching is just one area focused upon at lessons, clinics and camps. All areas of the game are addressed, improving your child’s overall talents and self confidence. In addition, your child will learn good working habits while socializing with others their age in a positive environment. Think about enrolling your child for baseball instruction today!

Making Your Child’s Problems, Phobias, and Limiting Beliefs Disappear

May 11th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Reframing comes in two forms: reframing the content and reframing the context.

Reframing the content is simply changing one’s focus. So, if your daughter comes home and says her teacher was not treating her fairly. She said that he assigned her the most difficult topic on the list for a project the students need to do. After you talk a bit, you realize the teacher is trying to challenge her more. You explain that she has very high marks in the class and that the teacher is simply challenging her because he wants to see her excel. Your daughter hadn’t really seen it in this way before and once she does, she adopts a different content frame through which to view the situation.

Reframing the context means to take the behavior and look at it in light of the context in which it was used. In other words, it’s not what they are doing, but when and/or where they are doing it. Getting up and dancing in the middle of the school assembly is not appropriate, but getting up and dancing at the school dance is.

The best thing to do when your child has a behavior that is not good is:

1. Assume good intent. If you assume they meant to do something bad, then they might end up continuing on with bad behavior or becoming defensive. It is better to assume positive intent and then lead them from there.

2. If the behavior needs a reframing of content, then you can find out what that positive intention is and you can work with your child to find a different behavior that would meet the same need.

3. If the behavior needs a reframing of the context, then you can sit with your child and discuss a more appropriate context for the behavior, i.e. a better time and place for the behavior.

Another problem that children deal with every bit as much as adults do is phobias and limiting beliefs. That’s right! Fears can plague a child and for that the metaphor is an ideal way to help your child deal with that fear. The metaphor is great because it connects with and communicates with the subconscious mind. You can also use the metaphor to relate to your child’s map of the world. This can be in the form of a story, an allegory, or an analogy.

The key is to keep in mind that your child is doing the best they can with what they have. Your job is to help them find better tools and a different outlook so that they can alter their behavior appropriately. This will create a happier, healthier child and a better relationship between you and your child.

Kids’ Scavenger Hunt Ideas

May 7th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Around my home, we’re always looking for new, exciting things to do; things that don’t involve renting a movie, playing a video game, or watching cartoons. Thankfully, there actually still are activities that don’t center around the big box in our living rooms. And for the record, it’s not that I don’t also enjoy those things, but limitations and boundaries are a good thing when it comes to television.

One thing we like to do is to have scavenger hunts. I’d say we do this two or three times a week, depending on the season; if it’s winter, you won’t catch me outside much. That’s what our kids’ friends are for! Yes, once in a while there’s a snowman or fort to be built with them, a day of sledding, etc., but summertime is when it really gets fun outside.

Scavenger hunts are not that difficult to set up, really. Start with something minor like just hiding a couple toys – preferably new ones – and write a couple clues for your child. Pretend that it wasn’t you who did it; that a good pirate came in the middle of the night and created a series of clues for you to follow. Go on the hunt with him/her and act like you’re really into it! I’ve found that once I start TRYING to enjoy something with my daughter, little by little I start ACTUALLY enjoying it. Once you get there, more and more ideas for bigger and better scavenger and treasure hunts will pop into your head, and before you know it, you have yourself a little family tradition!
