The Kidkraft Rocket Ship caught my attention during the Holiday season when I was looking for an interesting gift for my 5 years old nephew. I had already bought Kidkraft Glamour dollhouse for my niece, and I wanted something similar but for a boy. The KidKraft Rocket Ship was all I was looking for, and as it turned out, both kids just love it.

The Kidkraft Rocket Ship is really great fun for boys and for girls. Like in dollhouses for girls, there are a lot of details in painting and decor. The rocket ship has several rooms, stairs, doors, astronauts, robots and even aliens. There are a lot of little pieces and parts to add, remove and move around. The ship’s astronauts and robots can access all four floors via the working elevator or climb into their land rovers and head down the removable ramp when it’s time to chart new territory.

The Kidkraft Rocket Ship gives the little astronauts all the gear they need to explore the outer space. The budding astronauts can imagine launching off to faraway planets, meeting aliens, and floating around the ship’s multiple rooms. The rocket has plenty of space for multiple kids to play at once so they can practice the cooperation they would need on a cooped-up space mission. Young astronauts will love imagining they are flying through space, meeting aliens and using the ship’s special computers to do important research.

It is well known that good toys stimulate children to play, encourage creativity, and curiosity. Play is extremely important for kids, because it is through play that children exercise their fantasy, imagination, and manual skills as well. Space toys are especially valuable for this purpose, since the action takes place outside of the day-to-day environment – everyday environment and its limitations are less intrusive – thus giving greater leeway for imagination and creativity. During creative play, children use their own language, their own expressions, and they can explore without limits. They can set and achieve their own goals – not goals imposed by parents or other adults.

Pretend play toys also boost children’s self-confidence through mastery of physical activities. The combination of imagination at play and social interaction with other kids also help cognitive development.

I strongly believe that little boys often are just as fascinated by dollhouses as little girls, however, some may prefer dollhouses designed specially for boys. Kidkraft Rocket Ship certainly fits that category. In addition to meeting all the criteria for a toy with great play value, it has great educational value as well. Playing with the rocket ship, children get exposed to new concepts – rocketry, outer space, and weightless environment. If you combine such toy with well selected books and DVDs about space exploration and astronauts, there is simply no limit to educational benefits. Kids will gain tremendous amount of knowledge while playing!
