Kids sports bedding is a fun and inspirational way to decorate a child’s room that helps them to feel team spirit and to express their interest in sports. However, if the prospect of looking for and buying another bed set is daunting, it is possible for the crafty adult to make a kids sports bedding set with odds and ends that may even be around the house. Creating this project with the child is also a great way to bond and share an interest with them. Depending on what can be found in the attic or garage, various objects could be made.

If a sports-minded child already has a blanket or comforter that he or she uses, it can be added-to to become a sporty bed cover. Supplies to make homemade kids sports bedding isn’t difficult to find in a family where a child is inspired to enjoy sports. It is likely that in a sport-nurturing family there are members who have older clothes that show sports emblems. Even buying cheap team shirts at a used clothing store would be easier to afford than buying a brand new set. Cutting the images out along the lines or around them in a circle, square or triangle prepares the patches to be sewn onto the blanket. After the images are cut out, the child can pin them to the blanket in spots that they want, which gives the bed cover a unique look.

As a project that requires the attention span of a dedicated teen, a quilt can also be made from the cut-out fronts of sports t-shirts sewn together, or by finding or creating cheer flags to sew onto backing before putting the quilt together with batting.

To accommodate pillows for kids sports bedding, well-cleaned sports jerseys and even letterman jackets can be un-sleeved and sewn shut to make a sporty pillow cover. Boys beds would be able to hide the box spring with a bed skirt made of triangular cheer flags strung together to match the homemade comforter and jersey pillow cases so that the combination becomes as handsome as the kids sports bedding sets found at any store, but with a personal touch and meaning. Sheets to accompany these homemade sets are difficult to make at home, and may be bought, but cheap, simple solid colors can be chosen to match the colors in the set.

These same concepts can be used to create kids sports bedding in any-aged room. Done on a smaller scale, a baby can have these same creations as well as a sporty shirt-emblem crib-liner and valances or curtains. This idea can be carried into bath accessories as well when a simple shower curtain has the laced canvas parts of old basketball high tops hot-glued along it. With some patience and working together, soon a memorable kids sports bedding set will be achieved and perhaps preserved through decades as a cherished heirloom.

My name is Tami Grayson, and I recently re-decorated my sons bedroom. One of the best things I did was make some of my own kids sports bedding and saved a lot of money. You can get additional information at my website, http://www.Kids-SportsBedding.com.

The Game Plan – Kids and Sports Safety

Get “the game plan” for keeping your kids safe at play this school year with the safety review and overview in this easy to read article.

The fall and winter seasons mean football, hockey, volleyball and gymnastics. Then, come spring it’s basketball, baseball, softball and tennis. Kids love sports, and there’s really no better way to let them burn off all their youthful energy.

As a parent, however, you’re concerned about injuries – the pulled or strained muscles, broken and cracked bones, torn tendons and ligaments, and any of dozens of other injuries. But children are often more resilient than their protective parents realize, and can snap back from an injury much faster than adults. Just the same, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of peace of mind.

Training first

Training also includes pre-training: getting ready for the more structured and formal training kids will undergo with their team. You and your child can work together to compose a pre-training regimen, combining calisthenics with a good cardiovascular workout to prep their bodies for the more specialized training to come later.

Probably the most important aspect of training and pre-training alike is consistency. The body at any age thrives on structure and regularity. Sticking to the regimen you and your child set is crucial to building efficiency and raising muscle and respiratory stamina.

Diet and hydration

It’s said so often it’s practically a cliché, but proper diet and exercise are essential for children to develop and thrive. This is especially true for children speeding up their metabolisms with intensive exercise. Young athletes in training need lot of carbohydrates and protein to keep their energy up and their muscles stocked with the necessary building blocks.

Keep children well hydrated during training and play, especially during the warmer months of the year. In general, the body needs as much water as it releases in sweat. For most purposes, one cup every fifteen to twenty minutes of training is sufficient. Remember too that over-hydrating can cause cramps and nausea, so use your best judgment. Giving the child sports drinks is fine so long as they are sugar-free and contain plenty of electrolytes.

In case of emergency

The team your child joins should have a thorough emergency plan and first aid preparation and materials with them at all practices. All padding and equipment should be reasonably new and in good condition. It’s also important to make sure the pads and other equipment are the right size. The field or court the team competes on should be level and in good repair, with no holes, jutting cracks, or fissures that could present a tripping hazard.
